Apple CEO Tim Cook told NBC's Brian Williams in an interview that airs Thursday night at 10 p.m. EST that the company intends to make one of its Mac lines in the United States next year.

Apple would not reveal where exactly the Macs will be manufactured. Cook said that some components — like the processor and the glass for the iPhone — are already made in the U.S. He said the company will spend $100 million on manufacturing in the U.S. with contract manufacturers sometime in 2013.

Cook, who joined Apple in 1998, said he believes it's important to bring more jobs to the United States.

"We've been working for years on doing more and more in the United States. When you back up and look at Apple’s effect on job creation in the United States, we estimate that we've created more than 600,000 jobs now," said Cook.

In related news, Bloomberg reports that Foxconn — Apple's biggest supplier — also plans to expand U.S. manufacturing. Foxconn spokesman Louis Woo told the site:

"We are looking at doing more manufacturing in the U.S. because, in general, customers want more to be done there. In addition, any manufacturing we take back to the U.S. needs to leverage high-value engineering talent there in comparison to the low-cost labor of China."
