As if having control of your web surfing, mobile phone and social notworking wasn't enough, Google now wants to take over your television set, too. According to an article in the New York Times, Google has formed a partnership with Sony, Intel and Logitech to enable TV viewers to use web applications as easily using their TV remote controls. It will work by using a Google TV set-top box that will run the Android Linux-based operating system that's currently used on a number of smartphones, and opening it up to developers. This will transform TV from what we have currently, where web content is available but limited as to what sites we can access. A developer toolkit might be provided by Google in a matter of months, with products based on the software available as soon as this summer. The New York Times quotes anonymous sources for this information, but something can be gleaned from the fact that Google and Intel have kept quiet about the project rather than issuing denials.
